Maybe you’re like me. One day I was working away on the weekend, getting things off my to do list and I suddenly realized that in a few short months I would be eligible for a pension? Where had the time gone?
I had so many dreams and so much left to do but the time was slipping away.
I’m a manager in an IT department. I love my work and I’m not tired of it but I realized that even with my career that it would be difficult to live off my pension and investments. Things had to change.
About a year before this I read a book called “Change Before You Have To” by Bob Ketterling. It’s a book about making fundamental changes in your life before the crisis happens.
It was about changing your diet before the heart attack or start paying attention to your spouse before the marriage counseling. It was about changing yourself before you need to because a crisis made you change. Makes sense doesn’t it.
We all seem to get in a rut where we get up at the same time and eat the same food for breakfast, take the same route to work, do the same work, have lunch at the same place and come home at the same time. For dinner, we have a selection of the same foods and we watch the same TV shows and we go to bed at the same time. Nothing changes, day in day out as the days stretch out to weeks and the weeks turn into years.
But what if there was more? What if you want more?
I have always been fascinated with the life of the entrepreneur. I had run a couple small businesses in High School and I have a Business Administration diploma. I had also spent 13 years as a salesman for a number of companies. My years of management have taught me a number of skills from project management to controlling budgets, to working on Human Resources issues.
But what I love is speaking and teaching.
